Set up and connect

It takes a few minutes. You need a computer, a phone or tablet, and both on the same Wi-Fi network.

  1. Install the Companion on your computer

Download the build for your operating system, install it and open it. The Companion runs in the background and sits in the system tray.

    Go to downloads

macOS The Companion needs Accessibility permission to send keys. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and turn on Stream Pad.

Ubuntu Sending keys is most reliable in an X11 session.

  2. Install the Stream Pad app on your phone

The app is on Google Play for Android and on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.

  3. Connect your phone to your computer

In the Companion, open the connection QR code and scan it with the app on your phone. If scanning does not work, type your computer’s IP address and port 8089 into the app’s connect screen.

Next time, the app remembers the computer and you just pick it from the list.

  4. Create your first button

In the Companion, add a button, name it, pick an icon and assign an action, such as a shortcut that mutes your mic. Save, and the button appears on your phone.

If your phone cannot connect

  • Check that your phone and computer are on the same Wi-Fi network. Guest networks often stop devices from seeing each other.
  • Allow Stream Pad through your computer’s firewall. The Companion accepts connections on port 8089.
  • Check that the Companion is running on your computer.
  • Try typing your computer’s IP address instead of scanning the QR code.
