Questions and answers

Things worth knowing before and after you install Stream Pad.

Does Stream Pad cost anything?

No. The Companion and the mobile app are both free, and you do not need an account.

Does it need the internet?

No. Your phone and computer only need to be on the same Wi-Fi or LAN. Commands go straight from the phone to the computer without passing through any server.

Which devices does it run on?

Computers: Windows 10/11 64-bit, macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon), Ubuntu or Debian 64-bit. Phones and tablets: Android 8.0 or later, iOS and iPadOS 15.1 or later.

Can I connect several phones at once?

Yes. Every device shows the same board and updates as soon as you change the layout. Computer audio is the exception: it plays on one phone at a time.

I tap a button and my Mac does nothing. Why?

macOS only lets Stream Pad send keys once you grant it Accessibility permission. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and turn on Stream Pad. If it is on but stopped working after an update, remove the old Stream Pad entry from the list and add it again.

Does it work on Ubuntu with Wayland?

Yes, but some system shortcuts may not go through. Sending keys is most reliable in an X11 session.

My phone cannot find my computer. What should I check?

Make sure both are on the same Wi-Fi network, the Companion is running, and the firewall allows port 8089.

Where is my data stored?

Your button layout is saved as a file on the computer running the Companion. Your phone only remembers the address of computers it has connected to. Stream Pad does not collect personal data.

How do I hear my computer’s audio on my phone?

Add an audio tile to your pad, then tap it on your phone. With several phones connected, you choose which one plays.
